The Hydrocarbons Price Stabilization Fund (HPSF), celebrated the 140th edition of the International Labour Day at its head office in Yaounde under the theme: Social Dialogue and Decent Work: Factor of Peace, National Cohesion and Economic Development of the Company. The event commenced at 3:00 pm prompt in the establishment’s multipurpose hall with employees dressed in bright orange and blue outfits to enjoy good music, to dance, and relish a variety of traditional meals. Stressing on the fact that the most important part of any company is its staff, the Director General, OKIE Johnson NDOH and Deputy Director General Diane Valerie OBAM led the celebration, emphasizing on the wellbeing of employees for the success of the establishment’s missions.
The day was marked by a speech from the Director General, OKIE Johnson NDOH, who addressed a heartfelt acknowledgement for the sacrifices and daily dedication of the HPSF staff. The Director General noted that while diligence is required for the establishment's reputation, it is the collective "spirit to win" that truly resonates within the current context and drives high-level results.
A centerpiece of the speech, was Mr. OKIE Johnson NDOH’s personal managerial style characterized by deep observation and active listening. He shared his practice of keeping a small notebook to record the specific concerns of every staff member, emphasizing that empathy can often alleviate workplace stress even when immediate solutions are unavailable.
A reflective mood sets in as the Director General shared his spiritual journey to the Vatican, in relation to Pope Leo XIV’s visit to Cameroon. He described the emotional weight of being chosen as National Coordinator, admitting he was moved to tears before meeting the Pope five times. During these encounters, he requested a special blessing for the institution and its mission, a blessing he officially extended to the entire HPSF staff during the ceremony. He noted that the establishment has now achieved a unique level of international recognition through this connection.
Concluding his speech, the Director General, OKIE Johnson NDOH outlined the five pillars of management currently guiding the HPSF: Listening, Respect, Responsibility, Accountability, and Discipline. These pillars are designed to ensure that every collaborator is treated with dignity and that resources are managed with rigour. The celebration ended with a challenge to all directors to empower their collaborators, reinforcing the idea that everyone within the institution is useful and possesses a genuine contribution to the HPSF goals.
